new year, what’s next?
it’s the new year. Usually I would be so excited to share what I have in-store next as far as hair education I’m taking for the year and what we have planned but I need to be so honest with you…
2025 was such a transformative year in sooo many ways. I decided to take care of my physical and mental health. My journey started with hope and ended with revelation and emotional burnout along with the education I had originally signed up for at the beginning of 2025. Although I really needed to dig deep and heal, It was not a good idea to do so with so much planned throughout the year. And even though I still have planned some things for this year, I’m going to be as intentional as possible.
By being intentional, I mean taking actual lunch breaks during my salon days, having full bts work days so I don’t have to work on the weekends, and only taking 1-2 classes this year. I’m no longer filling all of my time just because it looked great in my paper planner. Which I used to live my whole life with but I think I’m going to take a break from it this year.
What I listed above might be big no-brainers for you but for me, I’m breaking habits that were shared with me very early on when I joined the beauty industry and frankly, I feel so many people feel pressured to live this type of busy lifestyle.
I hope that with ever step I take towards my “less is more” goals, you get inspired to take a moment to take care of yourself this year. It could be a simple as making sure you have 15 minutes of uninterrupted coffee time to yourself before your day starts, a walk with a friend once a week, or (and don’t even act surprised with this suggestion) a head massage and blowout once a month so you can fill your cup regularly.
Here’s to keeping each other accountable, taking care of our mental health, and to slowing down this year!
